MediaTek outs its Second octa-core MTK6595, Cortex-A17, PowerVR Rogue, LTE processor for $200 LTE smartphones

Chinese chipset maker MediaTek has announced a new SoC for smartphones and tablets that promises to take the company into new markets. The octo-core MT6595 features big.LITTLE ARM Cortex-A17, PowerVR Rogue Series 6, H.265 UHD video, 802.11ac, and LTE.
You'll soon be able to buy LTE smartphones powered by a processor with eight cores for between $200 and $300 without subsidies, thanks to MediaTek’s latest SoC (system-on-a-chip).

Full specs for the first true Octa-core MediaTek MT6592 and quad-core MT6588 show great promise

A rather extensive specs sheet covering the ins and outs of the new duo of MediaTek processors, the octa-core MT6592 and the quad-core MT6588, has been leaked on the Chinese Weibo, infamous for its resourcefulness.

Eight core MediaTek MT6592 takes on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800

The initial announcement of Mediatek’s new eight core MT6592 chip didn’t seem to spark up much interest. After all, it’s designed, in typical Mediatek fashion, to be an efficient, low power, and low cost chip. But perhaps an Antutu score beating out Qualcomm’s top of the line Snapdragon 800 is enough to make people pay attention.

MediaTek Processors

Next generation Quad-core CPU - MTK 6588

All MediaTek Processors Specs

The new MTK 6588 (Quad-core) has the new GPU PowerVR SGX544, supporting FullHD video without delays!

It supports higher-quality RAM, 13 megapixel camera and faster network speeds!!!

The new chips (both) have 28nm architecture, so devices are becoming thinner, faster and more energy efficient!

MT6588 quad-core devices

The MT6588 quad-core devices hasn’t been officially on stores yet, and now we have words from this Taiwan-based chip manufacturer; MediaTek that they will be releasing the MTK6599 chipset, which is an 8-core CPU chip with LTE support just before the end of 2013.

MT6599 CPU chip characteristics
  • supports LTE
  • uses 28nm conversion process, pretty much better than the MT6588′s 40nm (the lower the number, the better)
  • uses A7 architecture which consumes less energy than A9
  • it now has double graphics performance and by Imagination SGX544 3D functionality
  • made with SRAM free driver IC to reduce the cost of the panel
  • able to support up to 13 megapixels camera quality
  • has a price of only $18 to $20 per chip piece, relatively cheaper with its competitor; Qualcomm S4 at US$30 – US$40 price tag

Expected trends with the rise of MT6599 devices

  • Quad-core smartphones that are produced by Chinese manufacturers with prices of $320 will go down to $150 or less.
  • We will se the Krait 1.7Ghz MSM8960A in the near future, this is same product with Quad-core MSM8974 dual-core, rather than next to the launch of the 8225Q.
  • It will be a 50-50 percent estimated ratio of proportion for MT6583/MT6588 and the MT6599 chipset on the fourth quarter next year.
  • MT6588 will maintain an overall ASP of just $10 above.
  • Chinese market will be flooded with smartphones of 13MP CMOS snappers.
